Cheese and Biscuits: 19 Numara Bos Cirrik I, Dalston

But, needless to say, it was seasoned well, tasted great, and was a lovely colour from the tomatoes and fresh parsley.

And around this time yet another free salad arrived, just a straightforward mix of tomatoes, lettuce, onion and cabbage dressed in olive oil and parsley but still, they went to the effort of making it for us and didn't even charge.

Lamb behti kebabs came served on house bread soaked up the meat juices and soft brown rice.

It is hard not to get complacent when you're tucking into another great Turkish grill and paying a pittance for it, but the astonishing quality and value of so many of these places should not distract for a second from the effort and skill that must go into running them.

19 Numara Bos Cirrik I is Yet Another Great Ocakbasi, and I will never get bored of eating there.

Turkish restaurants lined both sides of this street, and for the curious gastronome in me, my eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.

After the meal, I was intrigued with Turkish food, and consequently made it priority on my to-eat list when I got back to London.

I know next to nothing about Turkish restaurants in London (or in general), out of my depth I turned to the wisdom of my trusted source, Timeout.

In addition to being home to the ‘Pho Mile’, it appears that Dalston is also home to a vast array of Turkish restaurants.

A large plate of raw salad and a large bowl of turkish flat bread with rice and a thin pita complimenting two huge sticks of kebab.

I thought it was the same for lahmacun (Turkish spiced-lamb flatbreads) in east London — that the best one was whichever one was there when you needed it.

I could walk along with a lahmacun wrap in my hand and just be so happy for such a long time.

As it happens, all the other lahmacun wraps are pale imitations of this one, and a lahmacun wrap this good is worth schlepping for.

And the best croissant in Paris is at Blé Sucré.

If you sit in at Numara, you’ll have a rude awakening: a sit-down lahmacun is £3.

But if there’s one area in London I’ve yet to properly explore for Turkish cuisine, it’s the ethnic hub of Dalston and Stoke Newington to the North where Ocakbasi grills line the high street in their troves.

Hence, when L from Two Hungry Girls suggested we go off the beaten track to check out her favourite Turkish joint in her old stomping ground of Stoke Newington, I was excited to see if standards were as high as word on the street.

Mezzes: Fava beans with peppers, dill, garlic and yoghurt (left), Mashed Aubergines with Yoghurt (right) To start with, we went for a couple of cold Mezzes to pick at.

I usually avoid chicken when I’m having Turkish food as I often find it leathery and dry from over-cooking on the ocak grill.

In addition to the staple fresh mixed salad of shredded lettuce, red cabbage and carrots you tend to find at any typical Turkish joint, our salad spread included a gorgeous grilled onion salad with pomegranate, sumac and parsley as well as a spicy pickled onion salad – both of which accompanied the meats beautifully.

The chargrilled meats are marinated in delicate spices and cooked to tender perfection.

I would recommend going late evening because it seems the grill gets throughly hot producing smoky ender meat.

The traditional flat bread is also cooked on the chargrill for a few seconds and very soft in texture.

At the time of writing this the price for the takeaway grilled meat, rice, salad and flat bread is £8.50.

In my opinion, I think it's the best Turkish restaurant I've vistied in Stoke Newington (so far I've tried 4 others),just because they stick to simple flavours, they don't overcomplicate the flavours with too much seasoning and the meat definitely tastes chargrilled unlike some of the other places I visited.
