Rustic Twist

Twist Kitchen – Kitchen and Tapas

First there was the kitchen; “My grandmother’s kitchen in Naples was incredible, she had this enormous dining table where she fed sixteen grandchildren, it was crazy, full of work, full of flavours, full of people.

As a kid I didn’t think of it as a kitchen but as a restaurant, I guess it was my first restaurant.”

This was the starting point of chef Eduardo’s life-long passion for cooking, and with Twist we wanted to return to that lively, generous space, developing the restaurant around the central idea of an open kitchen – “everyday as a chef you are engaging all the senses and I wanted to create a work-space like my grandmother’s, where this experience would be shared with everyone.”

The tapas style was perfect for this, not only because it’s a really free format, but you are always learning something new, each table’s order is its own unique composition, its own voyage of discovery.”

Our simple cooking style reflects their quality, letting the natural flavours and textures speak for themselves, so that as we explore ever-varying fusion combinations, the beauty of the raw material remains.

Zest, the new JW3 restaurant, which is run by Ottolenghi-trained chefs, promises a lot – and it delivers, says Sarah Rothberg Black tahini glazed cod at JW3’s heard rave reviews from friends and family, I was eager for a chance to visit Zest, the new eatery at JW3 – and when our meal more than lived up to expectations, I realized this is exactly the kind of kosher restaurant London has been waiting for.

Mojito and Zestini cocktails I ordered a Zestini, a marvelous mixture of Citron vodka blended with rosewater cordial and grapefruit juice (£7.50) and topped with a sprig of thyme, while my husband Simon chose a simple and classic mojito (£7) before being escorted through the restaurant to our table.

Zest’s Israeli roots are further cemented by the choice of condiments on the table; salt, chili flakes and of course, za’atar – a tasty complement to Zest’s home-made bread.

Bread and butter rugelach with sticky date pudding in the background For the starter, Simon and I decided to share the roasted beetroot, goat’s cheese and dukkah (£4.50).

Sarah and her husband Simon dined at JW3’s Zest Knowing this is Simon’s favourite dessert, I assumed I had made the best choice…until his appeared.

There are so many options when it comes to dining out in London, it's hard to know where to choose.

We went to Luxe in Spitalfields, east London, to give it a test run.

THE SCENE This bustling, bright and breezy four-level venue, which is jam-packed on Friday nights, is the place to be in east London.

Bill please Bar snacks from £3; lunch from £5.50; cocktails from £7; shots £5; wine by the glass from £4.20; pint of beer from £4.10.

VERDICT If you get here early and manage to bag yourself a table, settle in for the night – this one’s a keeper.

Restaurant Review: 24 St Georges, Brighton - Candid Magazine

Located in the heart of Kemp Town, a bustling area of Brighton set back from the seafront, with a slightly more mature and refined atmosphere, is the modern British restaurant 24 St Georges.

Sourcing local and seasonal ingredients to curate an ever-changing menu, the restaurant is putting Brighton dining on the map.

Once noted for its fish and chips and candy floss, the Sussex city is now making a mark with foodies, as the emphaisis on British fine cooking slowly slips away from its London-centric model of the last few decades, to pockets of brilliant food popping up across the country – and championing Brighton is this place.

Dessert was equally as exciting, with a hazelnut cake and brilliant selection of local cheeses – all washed down with Sussex’s own sparkling wine (which is worthy of any French seal of approval) and perfectly made espresso martinis.

Jamie Everton-Jones, at the time himself then a novice restaurateur and self-taught chef, opened in 2010, aiming to promote the best looking and tasting food in Sussex.

Rustic Twist Stoke Newington | Eat + Drink | London on the Inside

When applied to restaurants ‘rustic’ and ‘twist’ are two words that usually send people running, so to call a new restaurant Rustic Twist was a brave move indeed.

We passed this new Stoke Newington spot the other day though and our spirits were lifted once we looked at the menu and spotted ‘nduja croquettes on the ‘nibbles’ section.

The site has changed hands a couple of times over the past few years so it’ll be interesting to see if Rustic Twist can make a go of it.

The team behind Rustic Twist also have Twist Kitchen in Baker Street which has a good reputation so, despite the name, it’s looking like a promising addition to the neighbourhood.

Review: SkyFall Restaurant Hove | Fizzy Peaches | Brighton ...

So, after my last day at work and to celebrate the start of my maternity leave, we headed over to Hove to SkyFall restaurant for maybe our last date night together as just us.

A lovely touch was that our waiter came over and discussed options for me as I am pregnant, he highlighted which dishes would/wouldn’t be suitable and had a really good knowledge of things to avoid when pregnant (blue cheese etc) so that was a big help and a personal touch that went a long way.

Sadly, as I’m vegetarian AND pregnant – I had to skip the starter, as both veggie options contained Blue Cheese, so instead I ordered some Marinated Olives, whilst V enjoyed her starter of Textures of Cheese (Brighton Blue Cheese Bon Bons with Sister Sarah mousse, goats curd, Swiss Mornay Sauce, nuts and port jelly) and I watched enviously over the table (Hey, it’s not SkyFalls’ fault I’m so awkward at the moment!)

I feel I couldn’t enjoy the restaurant to my full potential, as being pregnant limited me quite a bit on the menu, so I think I’ll have to give SkyFall another go once the baby is born – plus I think by that point, there will be a Popcorn Martini with my name on, waiting for me!

SkyFall offer different menu’s throughout the day – with Brunch served between 9am-1pm at the weekends, a set lunch menu between 12-3pm Monday – Saturday, as well as Roast Dinners on a Sunday.

50 percent off your bill at this new eatery from the team behind four-star restaurant Twist.

In a very enthusiastic four-star review, our Food & Drink team raved about the ‘dazzling Spanish and Italian dishes’ at Marylebone's Twist.

And dishes such as corn-fed chicken thigh marinated in garlic, lime and honey or yellowfin tuna tartare or tataki, ponzu and yuzu certainly help make this place a bit of a new destination for London’s foodies.

We've put together a little offer meaning you can go and check this place out for less: save £10 when you spend £20, or save £20 when you spend £40.

But don't wait until this place is packed to the rafters, get there ASAP!
