Seduction is something that excites me though, and I exited Clissold Park onto Church Street embraced for a French kiss with Stoke Newington’s finest Parisian bistro, Blue Legume.

If the outside is anything to go by, my lunch date and I were about to enter a scene from Amelie – French all over, with a rich blue exterior accompanied by bold green, red, yellow and blue wooden chairs underneath the awning.

When we eventually did, ordering an agreeable bottle of pinot grigio (£14.50), we were in the back conservatory sitting in a dining room full of Stokey’s yummiest mummies.

Lamb shank, chewy on the outside and... chewy on the inside too I had ordered lamb shank, cooked in tomato sauce served with potato (£9.95), and my date – free range chicken breast, with roast peppers in ciabatta and salad (£6.95).

On the opposite side of the table the chicken breast was cooked perfectly with the fresh ciabatta and thick cuts of green and red pepper.

The Blue Legume, after establishing its flagship restaurant at Stoke Newington, a miniature nappy valley in itself, has opened up a second restaurant at Islington Upper Street.

Halfway between Angel and Highbury & Islington Tube stations, The Blue Legume is undoubtedly the salvation of battle-scarred parents.

Incidentally, the arrival of The Blue Legume so far down Upper Street may mark the gradual gentrification of the vicinity.

Come one come all to Blue Legume on Upper Street in London, where a dedicated team of staff will do their utmost to ensure that each and customer has an unforgettable dining experience.

Using locally sourced, seasonal produce wherever possible, the passionate people of Blue Legume have developed a menu influenced by all that is great in Britain and the Mediterranean.

From the Iberica reserva, a platter of delicately sliced and divine Iberian pork shoulder ham, and the moule mariniere, a glorious bowl of mussels in a white wine and cream sauce, to the heavenly crispy pancetta accompanied scallops and the grilled goats cheese with beetroot and walnuts, the assortment of starters offer a distinctiveness that is only enhanced by what’s to come.

Particularly delightful options can be found in the succulent rib eye steak, the delectable chicken breast cassoulet, which is slow cooked and complemented by sausage and white beans, and the vegetable moussaka, layers of grilled vegetables with béchamel, that are only to be compared with their selection of fish and pasta dishes.

With the Highgate Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club, the fantastic Emirates Football Stadium, and the iconic Kensington Palace all just a stone’s throw away, Blue Legume is in the ideal spot for a magnificent feast after competing in, or watching, a game, or amidst a sightseeing day of exploration.

A noticeboard crammed with adverts for gardeners and yoga classes reinforces Blue Legume’s local vibe.

Weekends see a younger crowd healing hangovers with a standard breakfast menu.

Grilled cumberland sausages, crispy hash browns, tiny button mushrooms, smoked bacon, a perfectly poached egg and a dollop of baked beans populated a generous plate.

Thick scotch pancakes soaked up a pool of maple syrup, while the scrambled eggs were rich with cream.

Blue Legume also does lunch and dinner, offering everything from burgers to lamb shank with mash.
