The Haberdashery - Breakfast club style - Stoke Newington - N16

Very lovely restaurant that mostly serves breakfasts late into the day.

In a way there’s nothing for them to stand out (no special cuisine or signature dish or stuff) but everything on the menu is served to a very high standard, and even when it gets deservedly busy it never seems to feel crowded, rushed or uncomfortable.

In a way every neighbourhood should have one.

The only thing we haven’t quite been able to figure out is what days they offer dinner and/or live music.

Forest Hill haberdashery Stag & Bow is expanding its creative empire

Stag & Bow, the popular haberdashery and craft store in Forest Hill is expanding its creative empire with a new open-access studio downstairs We had a family Christmas where we were handing out gifts that we’d made for everybody,’ says Pascale Spall, when I ask how Stag & Bow, the haberdashery in Forest Hill she runs with husband Cyrus Colquitt, came to fruition.

Haberdashery seems to be riding the crest of a creative wave at the moment and I wonder if Pascale sensed the ‘makers renaissance’ before opening the shop: ‘I wouldn’t say I sensed it, it’s always been such a big part of my life.

There was an amazing haberdashery shop in Penge called Maple Textiles, but I lived in Australia for eight years and when I came back it wasn’t there.

Last year they opened The Framing Salon next door, and to coincide with Stag & Bow’s fifth anniversary, they have just expanded and renovated the shop, as well as opening the Studio Below.

I suggest that Pascale and Cyrus are the centre of the local creative community, which makes Pascale laugh: ‘Oh no, we’re just part of a thriving community.

“Our food is served on mismatched vintage dishes Our coffee bowls are stacked higgledy-piggledy on the espresso machine.

Haberdashery is a brilliant example of the ‘make-do-and-mend’ café, not just in its aesthetic of vintage crockery, cocktails in jam jars, and hand-written labels, but also in its multifunctional appeal.

Where To Eat And Drink In… Stoke Newington | Londonist

NOTE: we’re defining Stoke Newington as the area designated by the N16 postcode, stretching from Dalston Kingsland station in the south to Stoke Newington station in the north, and from Kingsland High Street / Stoke Newington High Street in the east to Clissold Park and Green Lanes in the west.

Stoke Newington and the surrounding areas have the highest Turkish population in Europe, and this is reflected in the area’s restaurants.

They’re a mixed bunch but good bets include ocakbasi restaurant 19 Numara Bos Cirrik on Stoke Newington Road, Testi on Stoke Newington High Street, Café Z Bar on Stoke Newington High Street and — not so inappropriately named — The Best Turkish Kebab on Stoke Newington Road.

For top coffee in the area, make a beeline for quirky café The Haberdashery on Stoke Newington High Street, Esters on Kynaston Road, or The Spence Bakery on Church Street where you should also try some of the freshly baked breads, cakes and pastries.

If it’s food you’re after The Best Turkish Kebab on Stoke Newington Road serves until 2am and there are plenty more — very good quality — Turkish restaurants open later if you head in the Green Lanes direction.

Given the (well-handled) weekend waits for one of the tightly packed tables, the tucker has to be good – and it is.

Weekdays are quieter, while in summer trestle tables in the gravel backyard provide more space.
