Wander | A Cozy, Globally-Inspired Restaurant in Stoke Newington

You see, it comes to us from Australian chef Alexis Noble, who’s also stopped wandering, after trekking the globe for ten years (living and working everywhere from Sydney to San Francisco, to New York and Rome) looking for inspiration, and finding the perfect spot for her debut restaurant.

And that spot is Stoke Newington.

The venue itself will be small with simple wood furnishings, and will have a perpetually rotating menu of globally inspired dishes, with examples including scallop crude with green apple, fingerlime, and mint; wild boar parpadelle with green olives rosemary; and red-braised pork belly with plum, ginger, and star anise.

You can find out more, make a reservation, and check out the current menu at their website right HERE.

New Bar Spy: Wander in Stoke Newington | London Restaurant ...

food

Wander is a new restaurant opening on Stoke Newington High Street that holds seasonal ingredients close to its heart.

The restaurant showcases the very best that Britain's producers have to offer, using these fresh ingredients to make recipes sourced from around the world.

Despite having a really cringy slogan - 'Not all those who wander are lost...' - Wander is exactly the sort of restaurant that would do well in a spot like Stoke Newington.

In recent years, the East London area has seen loads of bars and restaurants open, all targeting the many young, sock-hating hipster crowds.

As with every good restaurant, the team keep things simple and light, serving plates that explode with taste without leaving you feeling a bit groggy; exactly how casual dining should be.

Wander brings seasonal Aussie cuisine to Stoke Newington | Latest ...

menu

Summing it all up: After years cooking around the world, Australian chef Alexis Noble has finally decided on northeast London as the home of her new restaurant Wander.

There’ll be a regularly changing menu full of seasonal, Aussie-style cuisine, with a heavy Asian influence (and a soundtrack of Kanye West....) Stoke Newington's getting another fine opening, this time in the form of Wander, a casual, modern Aussie restaurant with a seasonal menu that will change weekly.

Australian-born chef Alexis Noble has spent the past 10 years roaming the globe including Sydney, San Francisco, New York and Rome before finally picking London as the home of the new restaurant.

As the menu changes a lot, we can’t give exact details on the food, but from the dishes they've been posting on Instagram there are plenty of strong options, many with a noticeable Asian influence - like Thai basil on the beef carpaccio and zesty shiso on the tomatoes and wakame in the hollandaise (which we think sounds amazing, by the way.)

Despite the creative ingredient list, Wander looks to be firmly at the more casual, affordable end of the restaurant scale, with prices ranging from £2 for olives to £14 for the most pricey main, so well worth a look in, by the sounds of it.

On the corner of a busy road in south London, Louie Louie is a decent café by day which really comes to life after dark Louie Louie, 347 Walworth Road, London SE17 2AL (020 7450 3223).

Full meal for two without wine £60- £80; with wine £100 - £120 There is nothing manicured about south London’s Walworth Road.

And there, on a corner opposite a branch of Iceland, is a café by day, restaurant by night, where they can get things they really should want.

And then, in the name of some disfigured obsession with the word “natural”, you’ve written a wine list short on choice, heavy on price and occasionally cratered by the noxious and foul.

Wright’s Food Emporium, in Llanarthne, Wales, is another café by day which on Friday and Saturday nights becomes a restaurant.

A cosy neighbourhood restaurant with simple decor and adventurous food, Wander is a welcome addition to Stoke Newington High Street.

It’s a venture from Alexis Noble, an Australian chef who’s worked her way through notable restaurants in Sydney, New York, San Francisco and Rome.

Very good food indeed.

My advice: offer a showstopper dish that stays on the menu and is good enough to keep everyone in Stokey coming back for more.

The pavlova did it for me; but then again I’m an Aussie with a sweet tooth.
