Chic new interior at Korova in Tufnell Park.
The pair used to run the Zensai bar and restaurant down on Inverness Street, but have sold that to focus on this new, more upmarket Tufnell Park venture.
“The name simply translates as ‘cow’ in many European languages, and so in a way honours its history.”
A nicely-cooked piece of medium rare rib-eye with creamier dauphinoise and a green peppercorn sauce – dotted with too many of the little blighters – was competent too, but the overriding feeling on our table was that both choices tasted like “decent hotel food”, without offering anything especially memorable.
But the mains are well-priced (from a tenner up) and it’s a useful option if you live in this part of N7 – just not quite worth crossing town for.

A small, quirky family-run place in Tufnell Park, café by day and serious French restaurant/cocktail bar by night.
You alerted us to a new restaurant in Tufnell Park that we probably wouldn’t have heard of.
The name (Russian for ‘cow’) is more a reference to the venue’s origins: Tufnell Park formerly supplied a lot of London’s milk, and this place was once a dairy.
Now Steve Wilmot (owner of the Zensai bar in Camden Town) and his wife Sital have bet they can do better with a café that turns into a cocktail bar and restaurant by night.
This area has long had just the Tufnell Park Tavern serving serious food, so Korova is well placed.
