The Spoke

THE SPOKE LONDON - Coffee, Burgers & Cycling

THE SPOKE

The Spoke is specifically bike friendly and has something for all parts of the day – from coffee in the morning and burgers at lunch time right through to booze and more burgers at night.

Having already successfully opened up Bread and Bean, named by Giles Coren as “Archway’s first decent coffee shop” in his Top 50 Restaurants guide, The Spoke is open every morning for your perfect cup of coffee, available to drink in or takeaway.

With a simple but effective lunch menu, The Spoke provides burgers made from free range products for that infamous daytime meal.

Situated on Holloway Road, The Spoke is in the perfect location to come and share lunch with your friends.

With plenty of experience in the drinks industry, The Spoke will be selling expertly crafted cocktails from The Spoke’s very own ‘Great British Cocktails’ menu along with burgers made to order throughout the night.

Review: The Spoke, Upper Holloway | Kentishtowner

Beautiful revamped pub interior at The Spoke Pics: Veerle Evens Right across London, spruced-up orange Overground stations inexorably bring with them a bloom of artisan coffee shops, start-up burger joints and the like.

The Spoke is typical of this spirit, sitting directly opposite Upper Holloway station (a blink-and-you’ll-missit three minute journey from Gospel Oak, in our case).

Here, a down-at-heel boozer has proved ripe for tartingup and reinvention, undertaken by the same local team who already run Bread Bean, Junction Road’s acclaimed coffee destination.

It's run by the people who opened Bread and Bean a few years back - "Archway's first decent coffee shop" according to Coren.

We lived in Archway for 10 years, we love the area but we noticed there was nowhere nice to drink a cup of coffee.

We decided to look for a space for a coffee shop and opened Bread and Bean.

Lunch is a range of sandwiches and Mac and Cheese and in the evenings they offer a range of burgers and cocktails.

Cocktails sound strong and interesting using Brokers Gin, Moskovskaya Vodka and ranging in price from £6.80-£7.20.

Spoke | Restaurants in Upper Holloway, London

It’s got a cycle-related name, for sure, and its strapline is ‘coffee, burgers, cycling’, but on visiting this new Holloway Road pub conversion, it’s a bit tricky to tell where the bike connection is.

There’s no workshop, no big screen showing cycling events, no bike gear on sale, not even any themed decoration.

There are no indoor racks either – mine was the only bike in evidence, and I had to just leave it in a corner which, in a busy place, wasn’t ideal.

As well as a serious coffee offer (filter is ‘coming soon’, we were told in May 2014), there’s wine and beer – making this a place to linger.

But it’s no pitstop if you’re on a bike.
