Restaurant review: Coda by Eric Chavot, fine dining at the Albert Hall

Review analysis
food   drinks   menu

London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall has a new top-billing act: a fine dining restaurant, in the form of Coda by Eric Chavot.

The restaurant opens for two hours prior to show time and, cleverly, during the interval –  you can have pudding or an after-dinner drink.

There is undoubtedly an innate hostility towards any form of chicken on a restaurant menu — we have all been drilled to ‘order something you wouldn’t normally have’ when eating out — but, like the quality of a bread basket, it’s often an easy way to size up a kitchen.

It’s worth noting that the restaurant also offers a well-received Vegan menu.

If, like us, you devour your puddings pre-performance, order a drink (much needed half way through a nail-biting acrobatic act of Cirque du Soleil) or polish off your wine, which Coda will even keep on ice.

The Prince Albert - Geronimo Inn located in Battersea

Our pub is one of the oldest buildings on Albert Bridge Road, Battersea, built back in 1866, a palace of a pub commanding the western flank of Battersea Park and a view that is absolutely beautiful.

Step inside The Prince Albert for a royal welcome, the best in seasonal British food and an amazing traditional atmosphere.

We offer the Bridge Bar & Dining Room for exclusive hire, which has a stocked bar, 3m projector screen and also the function to play your own music in house.

Just a few minutes’ walk from Cadagon Pier, King’s Road and 10 minutes away from Victoria Station and Sloane Square, which gives us great access to amenities and transport links.

[1] Sweetings is located in the Grade II listed Albert Buildings at 39–53 Queen Victoria Street, built in 1871.

[5] Tom Parker Bowles reviewed Sweetings for The Mail on Sunday in 2013 and wrote of the decor that "the walls resemble the flat of an upper middle-class bachelor: spy prints, team photos and middling still lifes of Stilton" and the clientele were "contemporary City swells, supping Black Velvet from pewter tankards and guzzling oysters".

[6] Chef Fergus Henderson proposed to his wife, Margot, at Sweetings and wrote that their Black Velvet (Guinness and champagne cocktail) "puts you in the mood for romance".
