The Banc

The Banc

The plot which now proudly hosts our restaurant was once a local bank.

The establishment was derelict and unloved for almost a decade, until two locals Jan and Fabio decided to make a change.

In 2011, The Banc was born – inspired by its predecessor.

Jan & Fabio grew up in Tottenham and were raised on a variety of cuisine such as that which is served in The Banc.

I’ve longed for my area to have something similar, and then one day, like magic – boom – The Banc Brasserie opened up its doors on November 27th 2015.

In order to give you background on how the Banc Brasserie came our way, we have to travel across the road and talk about the main restaurant – The Banc which opened up in 2011.

The Banc Brasserie itself was formally known as a storage site for Downhills Park’s gardening tools and has also gone through a massive transformation.

I’ve fallen head over heels with their Chicken and Mushroom Tagliatelle (Chicken, Mushrooms, Double Cream, Blue Cheese and Roquette Salad, topped with grated Parmesan Cheese).

I’m so impressed from the way the building has been transformed, to the smoothies, the brunch and the Sunday Roast that the Annem-o-meter has gone a little off the scales.

The steak had included on top some french beans & cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and green peppercorn gravy served with a choice of hand-cut chips as we had a choice of having chips or mash.

Although my brother in law wanted the steak to be spicier, it was just about right, as I personally do not enjoy spicy food but then other people do.

This mixed grill included various items such as the chicken thigh, lamb fillet & two lamb chops with mash, served with French beans & cherry tomatoes.

Overall thoughts were good as the food presentation, drinks, service and the atmosphere was as expected seeing other reviews prior to our visit.

Food: 8 out of 10 Pricing: 8 out of 10 Atmosphere: 8 out of 10 Presentation: 8 out of 10 Experience: 8.5 out of 10 Overall, I will give this place a rating of 8.9 out of 10 I would definitely come again and recommend as it’s a very friendly and nice family vibe inside.

Steak meanwhile, decided to live life on the edge of adventure, and opted for the one dish that she has ordered on almost every single visit she has ever paid to The Banc – the chicken thigh “steaks”.

From our perspective, the quality of the food at The Banc varies considerably, with the steaks and chicken dishes seemingly leading the way as they cross the road of success, whilst the burgers trail a few steps behind, and the starters and desserts lie dead and flattened by traffic before they ever reach the other side.

Upon entering, you will notice that The Banc is comprised of a two-tier restaurant with an adjoining shisha lounge – perfect for those who wish to clog up their arteries in one area, before moving on to incinerate their lungs in the next.

In a city where halal steaks and burgers can be found in almost every corner of the map, The Banc does not particularly stand out from the crowd when it comes to the business of food alone.

The two friends behind “The Banc” have mastered the ability to engineer a well-constructed dining space and a warm, hospitable environment, and in doing so, have created a little place in Tottenham where other friends can foster their own friendships.

The most obvious, given that it's located in an old Barclays bank, is an erroneous Gallic reference to the building's previous inhabitant - but then this place focuses on steaks and burgers, rather than French fare.

If you're tucking into the food, steaks include rib-eye, sirloin, t-bone and a rump of lamb, while burgers range from a classic beefburger to a 'deluxe' with melted Stilton, a 'cabernet' with shallots cooked in red wine, and a 'tower burger combo' - a beef burger and a chicken fillet with melted Cheddar, mixed salad and mayonnaise.

Chicken burgers feature, too.
