Found either in West Hampstead or in Queens Park, The Alice House is a place for cocktails, for craft beer, and for hearty pub food.

We sat at the side on a packed late Saturday afternoon, thumbing the cocktail menu.

The Alice House has seven springy new cocktails to try and I, being a whiskey deviant, went straight for the Liberty Sour.

This was Monkey Shoulder, lemon, Liberty Spirit syrup, liquorice and egg white – and it was great!

A cocktail of Absolut vodka, apple, cinnamon, lemon, almond syrup and fennel seeds.

This West Hampstead guide provides a swift overview of the area, including the best places to eat and drink, shop, study, its history, council tax rates and public transport connections to the rest of London.

Located in North West London in the London Borough of Camden, West Hampstead, sandwiched between Finchley Road and Kilburn, possesses a well-to-do reputation, with a village feel, dominated by one main high-street, West End Lane.

West Hampstead is a chic place to live, thanks to its location on the edge of central London, providing a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life, and yet the transport links into the nearby West End and the City are second to none.

Located in zone two of the London Underground system, West Hampstead, home to three train stations on West End Lane, is extremely well served by public transport.

Aside from superb transport links, West Hampstead’s fine selection of quirky cafes, bakeries and small shops, as well as a high concentration of bars and restaurants, offers something for everyone, making it a great little pocket of North West London, and one  the trendiest places to live in the capital.

The latest incarnation, known as the Alice House, has been open for a few years now and is in no apparent danger of closing, thanks to its simple policy of being awesome.

In the pub-restaurant spectrum, this is clearly closer to the gastro end, but there are few places doing it better.

The main veggie option, a 'Bermondsey Fryer Cheese Tart', came skulking beneath a mattress of salad leaves, and was a spot-on treat for our meat-shy companion.

Drinks-wise, there seemed to be fewer draught options than at Alice's big sister in Queen's Park, but plenty of local bottled beers to choose from.

By all accounts, it gets very busy on a Friday or Saturday night, when the Alice House throws off its gastro-aprons and gets more bar-like.
