West Hampstead Life | Four best brunches on West End Lane

Review analysis
food   drinks

Serving French-Korean fusion, this delightful little place serves a variety of brunch dishes, in case you’re looking for something different.

You can also get a fresh, sweet orange juice and with good value to boot, this place deserves a score of 10/10 The Alice House No one can deny the Alice House will always be buzzing with energy, drawing many people to West Hampstead.

That, plus it’s slightly dear compared to other places gives it a score of 7/10 The Wet Fish Café Always popular, the Wet Fish Café serves an amazing variety of brunch.

Some may argue that what they serve is a full English breakfast rather than “brunch”, but who’s complaining?

One might not expect this lovely Italian restaurant to serve English breakfasts, but who can blame them for dipping in to the market of hungry brunch lovers?

[download PDF] The St Martin’s Lane area of Covent Garden is becoming really very foodie: all the usual chains, of course, as well as the inexplicably cultish burger joint Five Guys (always a queue) – but also quite a few interesting and different places such as Bill’s, which I reviewed last week … if not the absolutely dire Scoff & Banter, whose tombstone I erected not too long ago, and across whose memory we draw not so much a veil as an iron curtain, while we mutter our final farewell.

Well – not literally: he’s still cooking (daily, and fantastically well) at his eponymous restaurant in the Berkeley Hotel … but Tredwell’s is the second of his largely English diffusion lines, the first being the rather jolly Gilbert Scott in the St Pancras Hotel... Anyway, the site went elsewhere, and amid the facelessness the rather lovely hospital chapel has been retained – not, I imagine, due to the aesthetic sensibilities of the developers so much as the fact that it is Grade II* listed... Also due for earnest rediscovery are foraging and, naturally, the barbecue... [download PDF] My guest for a Hampstead Village lunch this week is Tony Brophy – a finance director for various housing associations, and long-time resident of Frognal.

In West Hampstead bars and restaurants come and go but Sirous looks set to go the distance.

Alive with the sound of happy diners chatting and laughing as they share tapas and a drink or two, Sirous has the kind of sparkling atmosphere that comes only with the creation of a truly relaxed restaurant.

Spacious and airy, opening out on to the bustling West End Lane, Sirous offers visitors the choice of relaxed, worn-in leather sofas or informal bistro style seating on which to while away a few hours in the company of seriously good Spanish cuisine.
