Quartieri, Kilburn High Road. Online Booking, London | Restaurants ...

Using a family recipe dating back to 1923 this Kilburn pizza restaurant comes from the guys who set up the famous Trianon Vomero pizzeria in Naples.

At Quartieri you can see the pizzaiolos kneading, flipping and baking the pizzas, made using flour and grain milled in the traditional way, directly in front of you.

The original Pizzeria Trianon Vomero in Naples is famous not just for the taste but also the size of the 'cartwheels' - and those giant pizzas, perfect for sharing, are transported to London too.

To finish, a selection of sweet pizzas is on offer alongside artisan gelato from Gelupo in London and cheeses from Campania.

Enjoy all this in the warm, bright dining room decorated with a live foliage wall and potted herbs, a palette of blues, reds and greens, plus brushed brass and geometric shapes which combine to create a contemporary take on 1960s Naples.

Proper Neapolitan pizzas, hearty portions and well sourced Italian wine are on the menu at Quartieri Kilburn is still (rather unfairly) seen as a bit rough around the edges, in reality it’s just another up-and-coming area of London which is steeped in multiculturalism.

One of the restaurants aiming to make its mark on the area is Quartieri, an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria which has just opened near Brondesbury station.

The team behind Quartieri have one thing in mind, to use traditional cooking techniques and high quality, seasonal produce to create menu which brings a slice of Italy to North London.

There is a choice of five or six starters, classic traditional Neapolitan pizzas (such as Marinara, Puttenesca and Margherita), a more specialist section and of course the desserts.

At this point it’s probably best to point out that the Quartieri’s menu is traditionally Neapolitan therefore what you see on the ingredients list is what you’ll get as a topping.

A friendly member of staff greeted us within a minute of entering and seated right away.

Everything from Quartieri is fresh and the food is sourced from Naples.

I was also fascinated to learn that there was an excellent selection of independent wines, which were imported from the Napoli region.

There was a great deal of choice and the chefs are very flexible and happy to make versions of pizzas for vegetarians and also have a number of non-cheese pizzas!

Overall, the food at Quartieri was very good, very fresh and prepared well.

Naples Pizzeria Trianon bring Quartieri to London, opening in Kilburn

Traditional Napoli pizza, with family recipes almost 100 years old, will be landing in Kilburn this spring, thanks to Naples pizza merchant Pizzeria Trianon Vomero.

This pizzeria, one of the best in Naples and hence the world, is opening Quartieri to bring heaps of traditional pizza to Kilburn, and all of it made in an ultra-traditional style - right down to how the flour is milled.

There’ll be all the usual starters, like bruschetta, buffalo mozzarella and arancini, which can be followed by either classic pizza toppings from authentic Italian family recipes, or something a bit more out there.

If you’re in a group (or just incredibly hungry - no judgement), then you can also order your pizza in ‘cartwheel’ size.

If you somehow still have room after all that, then there’ll be sweet pizzas to round things off.

The menu offers all the classic starters (bruschetta, caprese, frittura) and pizzas (marinara, margherita, calzone) from the Neapolitan site, but on top of that adds a more innovative take in the “something different” section.

The pizzas – cooked by a Neapolitan pizzaiolo hailing from the original family restaurant – are (naturally) the main focus of the menu.

The yellow (giallo) pizza is great too – I’m a sucker for pizza bianca (white, without tomato sauce), contrary to my fellow diner – covered with thin slices of guanciale (jowl bacon) that heavenly melt in the mouth.

The straccetti are basically sugar-coated fried slices of pizza dough, covered with homemade chocolate spread; the tiramisu…well, I’m sure it doesn’t need any introduction.

In London it’s Neapolitan pizza mania and, thanks to Quartieri, Kilburn residents are lucky enough to enjoy a share – or, more appropriately, a slice – of it.

Aesthetics aside, what makes this joint stand out is that it’s doing wonderfully daring things with pizza.

Take the ‘arancia vesuvius’ – a traditional soft Neopolitan base topped with a rather untraditional mix of blue cheese and lemon and orange rinds.

Pizza purists beware, this slice is divisive: I loved the contrast of the indulgently rich cheese and the wonderfully tart, sharp citrus; my date hated it.

Less controversial was the ‘giallo del vesuvio’, a luxurious concoction of smoked cheese and thin-cut slices of Italian cured pork.

I waited an hour for my pizza and catching a waiter’s eye to complain took almost as long.
