Vast naan breads in a stack, a few bubbles and charred edges; soft heaps of yoghurt mixed with spinach and herbs, a verdant plate of paneer sabzi – tarragon, mint and coriander leaves, spring onions, radishes and walnuts, with a chunk of salty feta, and a bowl of very good, plump olives.

Behesht is an elbows on the table, reach across, wolf down kind of place; and we're taking our lead from the almost exclusively Middle Eastern clientele.

Meanwhile, I've gone off piste – khoresht pollo ba Morgh is a quarter chicken slow-cooked and buried in a mountain of saffron-infused rice, with dried forest berries and a small dish of smoky, tomato-y sauce.

Behesht Persian Cuisine, 1082-1084 Harrow Road, Harlesden ...

First time went to Behesht last week as I'm a big fan of Persian Food as its not much spicy and healthy.

few minutes later my survivor(waiter) turned up and got me the sauce which was packed in a take-away container already, I assumed that they probably ran out of plates or something.

My gf had about 80% food left which we decided to take home.

On ma way back,, the whole car was stinking and I kept on lukin @ ma gf in a quizzical way about polluting the air but later found out that actually it was the koftas (take-away food) which was stinking in the car.

DUDES, that food was off...We both kept on running to the toilet all night.

Behesht, Ladbroke Grove & Kensal

A truly romantic, exotic escape is created at Behesht in Kensal Green.

Filled with Persian antiques and interior waterfalls, the restaurant serves a menu of bold Iranian delicacies.

The tea room is an inviting setting for a taste of Iranian tea, which can also be enjoyed on the mezzanine level overlooking the terrace.

“It is the worse experience i have ever seen in my life, first of all when i arrived found the guy on cashier screaming at the customers and speaking in a very rude way and seemed that he could not manage to get his duties done while we were 3 customers at that time then i tryed to pay for my order and then found him throughing the card machine infront of me while talking to some other customer on the phone which was really bad service and was even was speaking in a very bad and rude way then when checking the order at home found that it was not what we ordered and was some thing else which again was not of any convinience at all.

Bargh is a fairly new venture for BW and myself, adding a little excitement to our Persian meals.

The thinly sliced lamb fillet had a burst of flavour in each bite, with the rendered fat adding a fantastic richness to the meat, but I would have liked the bargh to have been a little softer.

I always find that good service really completes the meal at any restaurant.

Unfortunately,  service at Behesht was abysmal e.g. forgetting our orders and not even bringing them out when reminded, taking 20 minutes to give us a card machine to pay etc.

Behesht, I understand you’re busy but a little bit of good customer service goes a long way.

food

The interior is a no-holds-barred hymn to the (real or imagined) aesthetic traditions of Persia.

The food doesn’t let the side down; portions are enormous, and there’s real complexity of flavour.

Kashk-e bademjan – a warm paste of aubergine, walnuts and fried onions scooped up with handfuls of gargantuan flatbread – was a star of the meze-style starters, as was mirza ghasemi, a smoky hot dip of grilled aubergine, eggs and tomatoes.

Mains include rafts of tempting grilled meats, but we chose stews slathered in dark, rich sauces – ghorm-e sabzi with lamb, kidney beans, dried limes and herbs (sharp and moreish); and fesenjan chicken that managed the tricky balance of being sweet and savoury without becoming sickly.
